On 5 September 2008 camera teams and photographers were out on the town of Berlin for one day to accompany the life of the city documentary. The produced film will have its premiere on the 5th of September this year and is to be seen at different places of the city and on tv channel ARTE.
Besides the filmic observation OSTKREUZ documented the attitude to life photographically. The result is a voluminous photo book, which unites the people, the rhythm and the different facets of Berlin on this 5 September 2008.
Each of the 36 photographers experienced the people and their environment with his own curiosity on that day. Furthermore 15 authors wrote about their experiences.

Pepa Hristova wins Dr.-Otto-Steinert-Prize 2009
Every two years the "picture"-section of the DGPh (German Society of Photography) awards a scholarship for a temporary photographic work.
This year Pepa Hristova received this grant for her reportage about the last man-women of Europe, which live in the mountains of Albania and are called "Sworn Virgins". These women take the vow to preserve their virginity their whole life and with that take the role of the patriarch in the society.

Linn Schroeder shows her project „To The Moon“, within which she explores a city full of life with still a lot of quiet moments, apart from all tourists' expectations.

Exhibition on fashion- and underground photography in the GDR 1979 - 1989
At Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin an exhibition with OSTKREUZ-photographers Ute and Werner Mahler, Sibylle Bergemann and Harald Hauswald takes place until 13 September 2009.
In the exhibition "In Grenzen frei" ("Free between Borders") the Kunstgewerbemuseum presents fashion subculture within the context of "official fashion" of the GDR in a first inventory.
About 150 pictures of important photographers, original model dresses of "Allerleihrauh" and "Exquisit", videos, slide projections and publications exemplify the topic.

Exhibition of Jordis Antonia Schloesser in Trent/Italy
On occasion of the 52nd Week of the Italian-German Historical Institute (FBK) Jordis Antonia Schloesser is presented in an exhibition about the topic "Nachdenken über die DDR 20 Jahre nach dem Zusammenbruch des Kommunismus" ("Thinking about the GDR 20 years after the collapse of the Communism"). She will present pictures from the Berlin of the 1990s, which show the change in the city after the Fall of the Wall.

Scholarship of VG Bild-Kunst for Linn Schroeder
For her project "TO THE MONEY - in Zeiten der Wirtschaftskrise nach Las Vegas" ("TO THE MONEY - in times of global economic crisis to Las Vegas") Linn Schroeder receives a project grant of VG Bild-Kunst this year.
In this work Linn Schroeder examines the disturbances, which occur because of the crisis on a place that is based on surreal fairy-tale world and artificial fascination.
Linn Schroeder observed if the family-friendly paradise of commerce is influenced by the recession or affronts it with new ideas by means of the different theme hotels.

Espen Eichhoefer on the Philippines for Goethe-Institute
By invitation of Goethe-Institute Manila Espen Eichhoefer will be working on a free project on relationships and family in informal settlements of Manila from 28 August until 28 September 2009.
Furthermore he will hold a lesson on photography with Philippine students.
During this time he can be booked for assignments there.
